Experiencing Fallas from Xeresa: fiesta without the stress
Fallas is one of the most spectacular festivals in Spain, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. But if you are travelling with a dog, Fallas week can be a challenge: fireworks at all hours, frightened pets and little sleep. Staying in Xeresa changes everything.
Gandía Fallas, 10 minutes from Casa Filo
Gandía celebrates its Fallas with full Mediterranean intensity: monumental fallas in the neighbourhoods, music in the streets, midday mascletàs (firecracker displays), the cremà on the night of 19 March, and an atmosphere you have to experience at least once. From Xeresa you have direct access by car in just 10 minutes, without having to stay in the middle of all the noise.
Xeresa during Fallas: an oasis of calm
The village of Xeresa also has its own fallas, but on a small-village scale. There is atmosphere and tradition, but the pace is much calmer than in the regional capital. This is a huge advantage if you travel with a pet: your dog can rest at home while you go to see the festivities, and when you return the atmosphere is serene without continuous fireworks.
Casa Filo has thick stone walls, typical of traditional houses over 100 years old, which muffle outside noise very well. The inner courtyard is a calm space where dogs feel safe even on special occasions.
Tips for enjoying Fallas with a dog from Xeresa
- Plan your trips to Gandía for quieter moments: mornings are usually calmer before the midday mascletà.
- Leave your dog at home during the cremà (the night of 19 March): this is the most intense fireworks moment and the one that causes the most stress in animals.
- Bring a natural calmer or consult your vet if your dog is very sensitive to noise.
- Use the mornings for hiking routes in the Xeresa countryside: exercise before an afternoon of festivities is perfect for helping them arrive calmer at night.
- Visit the village falla in the afternoon: it is a good time for your dog to get used to the Fallas atmosphere without the intensity of the city.
When are the Gandía Fallas?
The Gandía Fallas are celebrated from 15 to 19 March. The liveliest days are the 17th, 18th and 19th. The cremà — the burning of the fallas — takes place on the night of the 19th. If you want to enjoy the whole festival, we recommend booking at least from the 16th to the 20th so you arrive rested and don't have to rush off the day after.

March in Xeresa is a delight. The orange trees no longer bear fruit but the scent of orange blossom begins to appear at the end of the month. Temperatures are ideal for hiking, the beach is calm and the days are long. Combining the Fallas festival with a few days of rural rest is one of our favourite combinations.
